Bariloche City

Resting on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi and inside the national park bearing the same name, Bariloche is the flagship city of the Lake Region. It was founded in 1902 and its most emblematic buildings were constructed in the 30s.

A strong wave of Central European immigration shaped its Alpine architecture and excellent cuisine: smoked meats, sausages, chocolate, marmalades and pastries. The city offers broad possibilities for active excursions, navigations and sightseeing tours.

The 7 Lakes Route

Route 40 snakes from Bariloche (Río Negro) to San Martin de los Andes (Neuquén) between lakes and mountains, offering breathtaking panoramic views. From Lake Nahuel Huapi to Villa La Angostura (Neuquén), the road winds through deep Andean forests.

The route passes alongside Machónico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo and Lácar lakes. Birdsong, shimmering waters, forest trails and snow-topped peaks combine for an unforgettable scenic experience.

Lanin National Park (Neuquén)

Named after the majestic Lanín volcano (3,737 m), the park features silent forests, sparkling waters and ancient tree species including the Araucaria or Pehuén, considered a living fossil and relict of Gondwanaland.

The park offers unique trekking opportunities and the chance to witness breathtaking landscapes in Northern Patagonia.

Fly Fishing

The Lake Region is renowned worldwide for fly fishing. Legendary rivers like Aluminé, Malleo, Chimehuin and Collón Curá offer outstanding sport fishing in pristine natural environments.

Rivers, lakes, creeks and lagoons host brown, rainbow and brook trout, as well as landlocked salmon, each requiring different techniques and offering unique experiences.

Skiing

Cerro Catedral is Argentina’s most important ski center, offering 120 km of slopes for all levels, ski and snowboard classes for all ages, snowshoe treks, sled descents, snow bike excursions, and cross-country skiing.
